About Cyfie Farm
A little about us: We came to Cyfie as guests in 1999 for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and several times after. We liked it so much, with its wonderful location near to Lake Vyrnwy that we bought it and have lived here since 2002. Neil was in the RAF and Claire was a teacher. We have improved the Farm and its gardens from the excellent facilities we took over from Lynne and George Jenkins, the previous owners, and have stamped our own mark on this lovely place.
Lake Vyrnwy accommodation
Perched above the Vyrnwy Valley in a magnificent setting and minutes from fairytale Lake Vyrnwy, this 17th Century beautifully restored Welsh farmhouse offers the perfect retreat overlooking the magnificent Vyrnwy Valley, Cyfie Farm is a remote traditionally-built 17th century Welsh long house and barns providing a variety of holiday accommodation. We are a working farm but the land is leased to our neighbours. Our fields have cattle and sheep grazing with our own Welsh Cob horses. Lambing takes place normally in March.
Restored over the past 10 years, the Guesthouse accommodation comprises 3 spacious private suites (each with own sitting room, kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom) sympathetically restored with oak beams and log fires. Our self-catering cottages were completed recently from ancient cattle sheds and a granary. Our hot tub and sauna spa is housed in the old pig sty but the pigs would be amazed at the luxury now available in their previous accommodation.
Carefully restored to retain many original features, Cyfie Farm's combination of modern comfort and warm farmhouse atmosphere has earned us a coveted 5-star grading awarded by Visit Wales. We have a Sauna and Hot Tub Spa , from which you can enjoy our breathtaking views.
Environmental policy
We have been awarded a Green Dragon award for our environmentally-friendly ‘green’ policies and we use local produce and product whenever we can. Our policy is as follows:
CYFIE FARM ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY-2007
Cyfie farm is a 5-star establishment offering high quality serviced and self-catering accommodation. Also, some agricultural barns and 20 acres of farm land are let to a tenant farmer (sheep and cows) and used for the owners’ horses.
Cyfie Farm accepts an obligation to comply with all relevant legislation and minimise its impact upon the environment. In recognition of this, we have implemented an environmental management system, which focuses on:
* Minimising waste
* Maximising efficient use of natural resources
* Preventing pollution.
Regular checks and reviews are carried out to ensure the environmental management system remains effective.
We aim to continuously improve our environmental performance through the support and involvement of all employees and any other interested parties.
We are only a few minutes drive from the fairytale landscapes of Lake Vrynwy, and near to the spectacular waterfalls of Llanrhaeadr, the stunning lake at Bala and the splendour of Powis Castle, Chirk Castle, Erddig. The Snowdonia National Park and Berwyn Mountains are nearby and both The Long Mynd, Stiperstones and Cader Idris can be seen from the farm.
The working farm is set in the peaceful rolling landscape of the mid-Wales uplands - a perfect location for walking, birdwatching, fishing, outdoor activities or just relaxing. For the less energetic, a simple stroll onto our terrace affords you the chance to be inspired by the magnificent hillscapes which are the backdrop to our National Garden Scheme gardens
You have to experience the peace and quiet of this remote part of rural Wales to realise what life used to be like in most of the UK 50 years ago. The wildlife, flowers and scenery are unsurpassed and we are free from background traffic noise.
The friendly local Community are most welcoming and were the subject of a landmark study into rural Wales in Alwyn Ree's book 'Life in a Welsh Countryside', first published in 1950 and updated in 2002.
Anne Griffiths, the iconic Welsh 18th Century Hymn-writer, lived locally and is buried in Llanfihangel.
Our garden has been included in The National Garden Scheme (NGS) for the first time this year. We are open on the late May Bank Holiday Monday between 2 and 5 p.m. or by appointment. Entry is £3.50 for adults, children are free. All proceeds go to the charities selected by the NGS.
We have a one-acre hillside country garden with spectacular views across the Vyrnwy Valley and Welsh Hills. Our Terraced formal areas with roses, mature shrubs, herbaceous borders are peppered with walks through the garden on different levels, leading to an informal areas with mature trees, rhododendrons, azaleas, heathers. There is a stepped path to the upper and lower summerhouses where wild garden, with bluebell bank views and the peaceful location are best enjoyed.
We have been featured in the Amateur Gardening Magazine of 12 April 2008 and an article from the Wales View magazine, produced by Visit Wales, of which 500K copies were distributed last year across the world!
New for 2010, we have 2 sculptures by Andy Hancock (seen next to 'The Guardian') which are significant additions to our lovely gardens.
We have a newly-built hot tub and sauna spa complex, with a hot tub, sauna, and changing room with shower and toilet, with stunning views over the Vyrnwy Valley. This complex is available for exclusive hire by our Guests at £15 per hour for up to 2 people. Additional people, up to a maximum of 6, are charged at £5.00 each. More...
There are many walks from the farm of varying degrees of difficulty – from very easy to hard. Pubs and our local café can be incorporated into these walks to ease your passage. Glynwr’s Way and The Anne Griffiths walk are nearby; Offa’s Dyke about 14 miles away. We are on the fringes of Snowdonia and The Berwyn mountains (Arran is over 3000 ft Cader Berwyn is over 2700 ft). Cader Idris can be seen from the farm as can The long Mynd and Stiperstones in England, giving Cyfie a view across the whole width of Wales.
